WhereToCompete.com has been launched! It’s up in production. I did some outreach to promoters of karate, BJJ, and bodybuilding events to see who I could get to post their events. I’m happy to say that I have some karate and bodybuilding events posted. Currently, there are nine events on the site. So I will be doing more reach outs. I’m going to focus on bodybuilding promoters and karate promoters since that is who has posted events on the site. The reach outs are a manual process. But I believe it is worth it. Every reach out needs to have a personal touch to it. Aside from that, I’m also thinking of posting some articles on the site in order to help out with SEO. That said, I would like to utilize guest posters. Those guest posters would be athletes. It would be a win-win. I get content for my website and I let the guest poster plug him/herself.
Idea number one is up and running. Time to start working on idea number two. Now I have two big ideas. But I had to pick one. So I landed on it and am going to pursue it.
Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what it is right now as I don’t want to give away my idea. So I’ll tease you by talking about it without saying what it is. It’s similar to WhereToCompete.com in the sense that, at its core, it’s going to be a directory site. That said it’s going to be a much more complex directory site (and will allow businesses to market themselves). I will be able to charge customers for this site as it will give them great value.
You might be asking yourself, is it a one-of-a-kind idea? Not really. So should that stop me from pursuing this idea? Not at all and I’ll tell you why. From the research I did, there’s only a couple websites I could find who are doing something similar. Their websites, in my opinion, aren’t the best looking. Their core functionality is good. But they also bloat their website with stuff I would not want on mine. I also think these websites are missing out on a huge target market that I believe I can capitalize on. In other words, I think I can do better. Last, but not least, I believe these two sites make a decent amount of money. I’d guess in the mid to upper six figures. Possibly seven figures.
So as you can imagine, this could be the idea. The idea that makes me say, yes I succeeded.
I have a lot to think about in regards to this site. From a business perspective, what is my business model going to be? How am I going to charge customers? What am I going to charge them? Then I have to think about the look and feel of the website. By the end of June I’d like to have this website finished. Time, as always, is my biggest challenge. Being a husband and father of two (a baby and a toddler) it’s not always easy to find the time. But, at the end of the day, I’m doing what I’m doing for the love of my family.
